Why advocate for LM?
I am advocating for Luigi Mangione, a man whose rights have been consistently violated since his arrest. We must not rely on a biased, corrupt justice system to secure Luigi’s freedom. We must bring Justice to a case that has been tainted from the beginning.
Advocate means to defend or support a cause.
Mangione was the main focus of the largest staged perp walk ever performed. The mayor’s presumption of innocence was extended, but he quickly forgot what it meant when he redirected the spotlight to Luigi Mangione. Evidence has been withheld from the defense while documentaries that included the withheld evidence were being prematurely filmed and released to the public. His lawyers had to watch these releases just to gain a glimpse of their case.
Furthermore, the Attorney General publicly created a new social media account and directed Federal Prosecutors to seek Capital Punishment for Mangione, who at the time of her announcement, had not been indicted, had not had a trial and had not been convicted of any crime. Luigi Mangione's basic human rights, most importantly the presumption of innocence, which are written in the Constitution and have been afforded to all citizens of the United States since 1789, have been stripped away with ease.
Luigi Mangione is a young man accused of actions that oppose his character. His close friends have spoken of the kind-hearted person he is. He was described by a friend as, “the only name whose FaceTime calls I would pick up. He was one of my absolute best, closest, most trusted friends.” A former classmate said, “Just knowing his personality, I would completely trust him. Even knowing what I know now, if he 100% did it, I would feel completely safe being alone in a room with him.” He deserves the right to a fair trial, and an unbiased Jury, which the media has put maximum effort to taint since his arrest by publishing articles that are based solely on speculation, and explicit rumors regarding his personal life. The media took this a step further by privately, and publicly harassing his family. They’ve done their best to try to dehumanize Mangione’s life for a quick buck. In short, these journalist’s thoughtless actions could cause prejudice in a presumed innocent man’s life.
